Tracy Morgan Truck Accident Update
Nearly 6 months after a horrific accident involving the limo bus he was riding in and a tractor-trailer owned by Walmart on the New Jersey Turnpike, actor and comedian Tracy Morgan continues to work hard to recover from the traumatic brain injury he suffered as a result. He also suffered a broken leg, several broken ribs and a broken nose. According to his lawyer, there is a possibility that the injuries he sustained will prevent them from becoming the Tracy Morgan he once was.
The original accident happened back on June 7, when a tractor-trailer owned by Walmart Stores Incorporated smashed into a limo van carrying Morgan and several others after a show they had performed in Dover, Delaware. The accident left one person dead and three others injured, with two of them, including Morgan being seriously injured. After the accident, Morgan spent several weeks in the hospital and a physical rehabilitation facility.
In the wake of the accident, Kevin Roper of Georgia, who was the Walmart truck driver, was charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto in New Jersey state court. Back in late September, Morgan filed suit against Walmart for punitive and compensatory damages. While he didn’t name Roper in the suit, last week Roper filed paperwork to delay Morgan’s lawsuit until his case has been settled. The ruling in that case is scheduled for next month. Walmart’s response to Morgan’s lawsuit contended that the victim’s injuries or in part due to the fact that they weren’t wearing seatbelts.
While Morgan’s lawyer wouldn’t discuss specifics about Morgan’s physical condition for reporters, he did note that, in cases of traumatic brain injury, it takes a long time for the victim to find out how well they will recover. He noted that Morgan was still fighting to get better and trying to continue with his life, but that it’s difficult, and there are no guarantees. Morgan was scheduled to begin filming a series for the FX network back in August, but that production has been put on hold for the time being.
Quite often, the effects of the serious truck accident can be felt for a long time after the incident itself. In many cases, the victims of such an accident will never recover and will have to undergo intensive and expensive medical care and rehabilitation just to get back to something resembling who they once were. The victims of truck accidents owe t to themselves and their loved ones to make sure they have strong representation, to make sure they get everything they need and are entitled to.
